Trio Jeroen van Vliet
The piano-trio for me is the ultimate line-up to perform: the piano is the centre of the group, initiating the melody and colour, oulining the structure. On the other hand, the context of bass and drums provides great opportunities to interact and let the music go in many directions. As a composer, my ears are most drawn to this set-up, I write very piano-like music (considering myself rather a writing pianist then a piano-playing composer). But most of all, I'm drawn to the trio because of the freedom in improvising, especially with great musicians like Frans van der Hoeven and Pascal Vermeer.
It has been 8 years since I recorded Red Sun with my piano-trio at the famous Rainbow Studio in Oslo, Norway, at that time consisting of Dre Pallemaerts, Frans van der Hoeven and myself. With the present line-up, with Pascal Vermeer on drums, we recorded a new album, again at the Rainbow Studio (with engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug).
'The Poet & Other Tales' was released march 2008 by Challenge Jazz Records and very well received by both audience and press. We performed in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, South Africa, and more will come.

Pianist Jeroen van Vliet is a master of nuance. His playing is enchanting, emotional and is full of fantasy

The Poet & Other Tales is a beautiful album of one of Holland's most interesting pianoplayers being around at this moment

The trio works very natural as a group . In Love Song Jeroen van Vliet shows that simplicity can be beautiful and moving. Edison-worthy.
